Pretty sure yes . It's exactly the same symptoms on the new engine as the old . The only part swapped from old is the alternator .

It stinks of fuel? Is it carb or injection? I'd check all the fuel lines asap!

I had similar with my old 1.6 vit and it turned out to be a blocked injector.Tried copious amounts of redex but in the end changed the injector,second hand off fleabay.What about the engine management black box?
Still looking for Buckeye road.

1.6 8v carb

1.6 8v spi

It was a leaking inlet manifold . Changed it and it's like a new truck again
