Vitara 1.6 help please .

Post by Caleb46 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 5:10 pm

Hi ,

I have just got my Vitara out for the summer and it started first time but has no power and it gives an occasional pop . When driving it's like it takes ages to build up revs . Any help would be much appreciated because I love the little truck . Thank you Sarah

Hi. Could be timing, petrol or carb problems. Where abouts are you?

And :welcome:

Hi . I am in Lincolnshire. It's got a very worn distributer cap I am told . He also said it's got a weak spark . It will rev up just takes ages to build up rpm. Tick over is normal . My last one went crazy and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor .
I have a spare distributer in fact I have every sensor spare. Thank you

Good service first, sounds like its mis-firing / not running on all cylinders.

Good service, make sure it's timed up right and see how it goes.

Everything changed Inc distributer . Plugs, leads etc etc . When I remove the lead from the second cylinder from the front there is no drop in revs . It has great compression . I have just fully advanced the timing via the dizzy and it's a little better but still has the miss fire below 3k . I changed the engine because the old one had exactly the same symptoms . I trust the seller of the new engine . I can't figure it out so any help would be great please . It sounds like it's on three cylinders on tick over . Seems to come onto four around 3k revs . Stinks of fuel . Sounds better when fully advanced . A A guy said timings out . Valve timing was set spot on last week when new belt fitted . Thank you so much .

Also the only part I have used on both of the engines is the alternator. It was brand new and on the truck when it had the original engine fitted . It looks different to the original one I had on the replacement engine . Seeing the one I had was new I naturally changed it. Thank you

Is the timing belt on correctly? Top and bottom pulleys lined up properly?

Pretty sure yes . It's exactly the same symptoms on the new engine as the old . The only part swapped from old is the alternator .
