Or RockWatt will make you a custom back axle, shorten it, indexed flanges, caliper mounts, oil seals and chromo shafts!

Not so cheap, he is trussing them and doing my front axle case too, diff caps etc...

Well it gets worse!

I've done bugger all to it this week, but popped into the garage today. I had a shaft ready, so a couple of hours and it should be sorted, or so I thought.

Get the shafts out, lift the diff out and clean the casing out, pop it all back together, simples.

Would the diff come out? Not at all :er: After lots of wiggling to no avail. I take all the axle fasteners off, tip it on it's back and the "bits" holding it in will fall to the back.

I did this, the bloody thing STILL wouldn't come out.

Remove the flexi brake pipe, axle off, shake the bits down a tube, THEN it will come out.

NOPE, still stuck.

 :er: :argh:

I then spotted through the small gap what looked like the bearing adjusting cup on the failed side seemed to be well out, and it was. This was stopping the diff from coming out. I was able to get a punch in to tap the cap back in, and out popped the diff! :smokin:

Proper pee'd off, I left it and came in for a few Strongbows. It can wait until tomorrow.

I think the chain of events was, shaft snaps, long end now wobbling about has bent the retaining clip on the bearing adjusting cup, cup starts to wind out as I drive from the quarry to a nice AA collection point. ;)

I'm glad I didn't drive home as I did last time a shaft snapped, or the diff would have been a right mess.

Ah well. The joys of off roading

Well I got it all sorted and back together without any issues.

So it was time for a play at Tong. If you've seen my videos you will see this isn't as severe on the transmission as it's based in a wood.

Things were going well until about 3pm, and the final run round before it closed.

And then, broke another shaft!

:pissed:

Sat waiting for my mates in yellow now.

Hmm, maybe it's the extra power, seem to be snapping shafts on demand.

Time to upgrade I think! You don't seem to be having much luck with stock shafts.
