thanks all, indeed a Devon one. The seller was a total nightmare to deal with and I bought it without even the engine running, he really was a nasty piece... but I needed the SJ so he exploited that too.
Spent quite some time removing his dodgy bits and deleting his fingerprints.
Needs the original seats and mirrors... and the on-going mech stuff, but to be fair it is mechanically very good.
Definitely a user Rick - regular shifter of stuff and tows the trailer around. The idea was get the balance of keeping it nice but using it properly too.

p.s. Donkey - yes PLEASE mirrors if at all possible :)

I've noticed you've got a separate roof over the drivers heads. Do you also have the rear bit that covers the load area? I'm looking for a solution that allows me to keep the back on but take off the 'sun roof' bit above the drivers heads.

Your only easy option would be a 2 piece fibreglass hardtop.

The spare original wheels are out for powder coating original cream, then maybe some Hankook Dynapro (standard size of course - the skinny wheel look will be back in fashion soon).
I thought you were going for a set of Yokohama G012 Geolander AT-S's Doug?

Yes, that's a bikini top - made by Bestop. I'm getting the back cover that covers the truck area - i have the back bench seat out most of the time.
I was seriously considering the Geolanders Sherwood, the Subaru lot in Canada (who else!) speak very highly of them. But I have seen press tests on the Hankooks and I think they sound ideal for what I want. I'll have the current wheels/tyres anyway (Falkens) so the others are for winter and mucky tracks etc.

This green thing is beginning to cost a few bob :):)

Found 2 mirrors but the mounting points are different. Maybe take them off (8mm bolt) and use your existing ones?

I have some experience with these mirrors and mounts.

Be very careful removing that bottom bolt, the chrome plated chamfered point shaft bolt is often well corroded, and can disintegrate when disturbed!

The chrome shaft arm is press fitted into the S/S mirror back, so impossible to salvage

If you need to grind thru the galvanized bracket mount for better initial access, I might have some spare.

Thanks for looking those out Donkey - so the stem base is bolted into the mount plate? and maybe I could keep my existing mounts and fit these to the black mounts?? I assume holes are in different places etc? Are those chrome stems slightly different?

I had another look yes they are slightly different. One is for an LJ I think. Oh well!

I bought a chrome S/S pair from my dealer, they're still available, at £52.00 each :shock: and I may fit later (I just prefer my all black look at the moment).

When I bought my new Mazda B2000 pick up back in 1987, I immediately went to the Suzuki dealers and bought a pair of the same mirrors, they were £45.00 each back then! Kept her 25 years, here she is just before I sold her 2 years ago.
