its definatley better for it to run bad as not run at all, but now i need to sort out this oil pressure problem, the light comes on, i took out the switch but no oil is reaching it when i crank it over, not good.

Do not run it if you aren't getting oil pressure, shut it off instantly if the light stays on, a leaking sump shouldn't matter as long as there is enough oil in the engine, I would fit a new oil pump before you even think about firing it up again otherwise you might cause some terminal damage to the engine

the engine really doesnt sound healthy at the moment (its also running on 2 stroke because thats what the auto electrician had)
i have drained the sump, will take it off later, the rocker cover is off, and the head seems to have a bit of oil round the vital bits but not enough. There is no oil getting to the pressure switch.
The problem is the pickup tube gauze when fitted to the modified sump was too close and i think its not picking up.
The oil was not an issue with this engine before it came out of the vitara, but i suppose i could check the oil pump, where is it mounted?
