Guys, thanks for all your help.
I've just got back from the main dealer and Pugsley you are right, I should have taken to chassis number. However, they were very helpful and did check agaist the reg number and say a new one would cost £27.67 and will take 7 days as there are none in the UK. They don't know if it has a spade or bullet connector but will check when it arrives.
The original 15/mm (ish) sensor had to be drilled out and obviously destroyed, the 1st replacement has a flat red insultion band at the collar, not as pronounced as the one in the pic posted by dazerede, the 2nd a Cambiare make No VE718022 has a yellow band. Both supplied by reputable car parts suppliers at a cost of about £7 each.
I'm new to the forum and will try to work out how to post pictures. As I said earlier, I inherited my late son's loved SJ410 15 years ago and can't bring myself to sell it, although I have kept it roadworthy it still hasn't done 40k. The wife can't drive it (no power steering) and throws her all over the place (i love it!), but she don't want to sell it either.
Again, thanks for all your help, I will post a reply when the dealer one arrives.
Cheers, Dave

It Seemed expensive to me as well, but I suppose it is a special order and has to be imported. I have found a web site that lists a sensor for 1988 SJ410 for £10.97 but it looks the same as the one I have fitted. The web site looked good and easy to use, Mister-Auto.co.uk . I'll wait to see what the main dealer one looks like. I believe my SJ was made in Spain, I had hell of a job some time ago getting a new distributor cap and arm. I don't know if this makes a difference when looking for certain parts.
Cheers Dave

The dizzy cap and arm should be the same for all sj410s.
I am a bit confused about the temp sender reading wrong though as I'm pretty sure both jap ans spanish sj410s should use the same resistance senders?

Certainly the dizzy cap and arm fitted to my SJ which is rust in colour is different than the ones provided by suppliers which was black and a different design. I managed to get one which apparently was fitted to SJ410s. This makes me think that the SJ I have has either been modified, which I doubt, or had different parts fitted as standard.
Cheers Dave

Does your SJ have points in the dizzy and a ballast resistor on the coil? it could have the 413 ignition system fitted if not. Was the cap that you originally got supplied too small for the dizzy fitted?
If you could upload a few pics of everything dash, engine etc then we can verify if anything isn't standard.
to upload pictures there is an 'choose file' below where you type in your reply, use that to select your pictures on your PC and then click 'add the file' You have to do this for each picture that you want to add.

Just checked my workshop manuals and it's the same resistances for the 410 and 413 but says nothing about the Spanish ones being any different (But we know what Suzuki are like
)

ScottieJ and Darrell, thanks for the info and advice. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow and have a go at uploading them.
The points are in the distributor and a real pig to adjust, they are beneath a plate and you have to adjust them through a small slot, it's trial and error to get it right. it looks like there's a resistor on the coil.
Thanks for the advice on how to upload pics, I tried to put one on 'avitar'? but I didn't get much success so don't hold your breath!!!!
Cheers, Dave
