Geoff, small world isn't it? LOL

Agreed that the simplest jobs take an age sometimes, but as you say well worth it. I'm glad you like the seats.

As for progress on the engine swap, check out the main thread as a little bit HAS been made, but more importantly the MoJo has returned

This thread about halfway down makes the claim that an M series engine block, head and crank are ~53kg.

Anyone know how that compares to a G13/G15/G16?

Anyone know where to find accurate info on M series weight???

As my M15A will be popping in and out a few times yet, I will try to remember to weigh it for you.

Can't promise when, but I will ;)

Thanks.

I'd like to swap in a G15 for simplicity/weight, but I think I'm going to end up going the same route as you. I need more oomph for towing.

I may not use the ignis loom/ecu though, I might just build a custom loom and go with a megasquirt and hayabusa throttlebodies - which should give me more torque.

I've just weighed the M15A engine.

If those figures quoted on the link you put up are to be believed, there is some very heavy bits I haven't spotted on my engine.

An almost bare engine no manifolds or sump pan, but having the flywheel and alternator fitted weighs a mighty 90kg according to our bathroom scales.

It you engine completely dry?

Also, maybe that weight is just for block and head with no internals?
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but on the original list the 1.3 M13a (Swift) and the 1.6 M16a (Swift Sport 2012) have the same bore and stroke, 78mm x 69.5mm, yet they are different engine sizes? Engine displacement is worked out by pi/4 x bore squared x stroke x number of cylinders (if wikipedia informs be correctly) but if you use that equation with those bore measurements you get 1300ish, so how can the M16a be a 1.6 with that bore and stroke?!

A M16A should read

bore x stroke: 78.0mm x 83.0mm that is then 1586cc

So same block and longer stroke crank

I made a few mistakes, I've corrected the ones I could see - if anyone else sees anything, please pipe up and I'll edit the initial post again. Thanks Tim/Ladaman!

Sorry anton i wasnt pointing out mistakes, merely getting excited that there is some sort of wizardry i haven't heard of to turn my 1.3 into a 1.6 without doing anything!!
