i pushed it out so i could see when i was driving it
the back end is far too stiff atm so we are looking at swapping the coils we fitted in the back for softer ones.
Looking at this:
Is that coils I see tucked in under the vehicle with leafs? Just wondering what the point of having both at the same time is? Or am I going mad and seeing things?

its done because the leafs are compeletly flat on it so they were put in to stop the leafs inverting.
it will be converted to coils soon hopefully

ah, a coilover, sounds like a good project, make sure you think it through very well before starting, as it can turn into a right mess if done wrong. is it going to be road legal?
It's not a question of how much you spend on your suzuki, but when your money will run out

My leafs are starting to invert too. Not good! Would like to get some coils under mine - have a plan to do that and hopefully stay fully legal, but VOSA aren't easy to keep happy...

im not planning on making it road legal so thats not an issue, but i am trying to keep it as simple and cheap as possible.
so far i haven't spent anything other than the price to buy it,i have most of the stuff i need like box section and steel sheets along with welding and fabrication stuff so it should stay fairly cheap.
the springs are off the rear of a mk2 golf,to get them in i cut 1 coil off, they still sit perfectly into the spring cups so its safe,im going to take another coil off them because they are under too much compression atm, that should soften the rear up a bit and depending on how it reacts to axle twisting after that will determine how i proceed with the fab work.

chassis is solid,no damage at all.
all the running gear is fine other than the springs, diff seal and the water pump.
it just has a rotten abused body on top
most people dont see the potential in it which is why i got it quite cheap

Cutting coils makes them stiffer - each coil allows for x amount of travel (based on how stiff the spring steel is etc) - as you take off coils, the springs get stiffer because you've got less coils to "give".
I'm not explaining it very well, but suffice to say you might be better off getting softer coils that are shorter to start with.

i didnt explain very well either.
at the current height the coil spring is too long so even when its jacked up( no weight on the suspension) the spring is under quite a lot of compression.
if i cut the spring so that when its jacked up its only just under enough compression for it to hold it in place it will soften up the suspension when there is weight on it because the spring wont already be compressed

Ah, ok. Yeah, having a spring compressed even when there's no weight on the car sounds like a bone-shattering ride to me!
How the heck did you compress 'em to get 'em in there in the first place?
