Very much doubt legally that you will be able to tow a horse box on the road. SJ is only rated to tow 1100kgs.

I towed a ranger over up my mates drive and it didn't like it much with the 1300. Also towed a fiat panda 4x4 on a trailer and was rather dodgy to say the least.

More recently with the 1600 fitted I towed my mates Clio across town on a 5m strap and it was a dream. Can't think of a better combo really. SJ had plenty of power to get us moving but is light enough that the trailing vehicle can slow you down with his brakes keeping the strap taught all the time.

Towed some trees out of a lake too. They were heavy.

Most, if not all horse boxes are plated too high for a post 1997 licence, regardless of the towing vehicle.

Mike was telling me about a friend who got done for towing an empty horsebox with an Astra. Perfectly safe, just not legal.

Anything with a plated max weight of more than 1100kg is probably illegal to town with an SJ even with a pre-97 licence.

With a post 97 licence, the trailer has to have a plated max below the unladen weight of the vehicle, which is about 850kg with an SJ, although the government and most towing clubs (like the caravan club) recommend 85% of the town vehicle's unladen weight.

What does the horsebox's plate say?

If you want to pull an 'o's' box with an 'o's' in it, I'd recommend you get something heavier, diesel and automatic, like a Land Cruiser, an L200, a Shogun, a Discovery etc.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Nice truck Scottie.

I'm not sure i will have to check on the trailer.

I pass my dt in 2006.

I know I can pull a trailer up to a certain weight. I didn't know even if I can pull a heavy trailer it all depends on the actual vehicle weight not the trailer.
