Thanks guys, i am going to go with the 1.6ltr vitara engine and another quick question is how can you tell the difference between a 410 gearbox to a 413 gearbox.
Cheers brad

Re: Best engine conversion
Bit hard the describe but I just look at the area where the top 2 bolts go. The 1.3 box has some diagonal fins up towards the flange.
Just look at a few on ebay and you will soon spot what the differences are.

Re: Best engine conversion
Sorry to be pedantic but, Aisin as we know it was only formed in 1985 and didn't start making the free wheeling hubs until 1986...ScottieJ wrote:It was an optional extra on all SJsHighlander wrote:i though all 410's had freewheeling hubs? maybe not.
So the original SJ410s (B/C reg) with the front drum brakes wouldn't have had Aisin hubs

Re: Best engine conversion
Twiss - I have a B reg July 1985 registered SJ413. Came with Asin hubs - so you think they're aftermarket?
The 1995 Samurai axles I have on there now have flanges where the Asin hubs would normally go (which I'm planning on replacing with some Asin hubs...). I assume either suzuki was fitting other hubs back then (never seen them myself, but harldly beyond the realms of possability) or fitting flanges to all the vehicles at that time?

Yours had front drums? Good thing you got rid of em!!! hahaha
Well considering Aisin didnt really exist when the SJ was made I would say yeah they were probably fitting afterwards!
They probably just had the standard fixed hubs?

Re: Best engine conversion
I should take photos of them and send them to ya, but the axles on there right now have fixed hubs - someone onced called them "hub flanges". The 'mericans on zukikrawlers.com didn't seem to realise that suzuki ever made anything like that.

Re: Best engine conversion
The free wheeling hubs are common is the US because lots of them were made by the US division of Aisin
