I'm just saying that 31s can look small with virtual lift and as Steve doesn't want to run large tyres on his Sj that it might look a bit odd with a virtual lift, just posted my pic as an example of small tyres and virtual lift (the yjs only give 1" lift with my set up)

The 235s that we had on this SJ worked out as 29x9.25" and I think they would look tiny if the SJ had virtual lift.

ah now im doubting the vl! ok ok so weld her up as standard and go from there? at least I won't be cutting up a good front clip. I can always to a inch lift of so at a later date as the front springs are starting to look a little flat :er: ok I need a battle plan!..

Id stick with the vl if you got to cut out rust anyway going a few more inches makes no odds , that way you can fit bigger rubber without the expense of lifting it another way

the thought of it lookin a bit silly without the bigger tyres on I think. to be honest tho the thought of completely obliterating any rust is more appealing

Go VL Steve.

A mild VL would probably look ok with standard spings and 30" tyres. I think most of us took quite a bit off to fit 31s.

(OK, just an excuse to post some 33" pics)

Thought i'd oblige Tom. Just gotta show steve the potential for VL.

I always said 31s would be enough for me. Guess i was wrong.

ok back to vl then. so I was thinkin, if I were to cut away from the top of the inner arch and go straight out if you follow?
so basically the arch would be the hight of the highest point if the inner arch. obviously id have to take some out of the bulkhead and maybe the sills to keep it all the same size. but would that generally be a good way to go about it?

also, sorry about all the questions, what would I do about the supports in the engine bay that go from the top the arch to the inner wing? just reattach after?

I pretty much did that. I cut out around the bottom of the indent. Those supports aren't really needed.

I then welded a new plate in to the remaining arch and brought it out past the wing enough to cover the tyre.
