in your diagram why is the return going through the filter, or has it got tangled behind the arrow?

I would turn your fuel filter by the tank around the other way, it won't make any odds to running but you can see how much crap is building up on the filter and therefore when it needs replacing. Normally they have an arrow pointing this way

ah right mines the wrong way round then but its not stopping fuel getting up to the front.
So whats my problem here, im getting fuel up to the front filter but just not through the carb, and thus its not starting.
and as for the blanking plate, if i put it on, theres a wee rod in there thats just sitting there must drive the pump can i take it on ahead out?

sounds like it could be a problem with your carb then, blocked main jet perhaps? maybe a strip down and clean would be a good idea?

And yes take the rod out, it is what drives the old fuel pump off the cam.

the standard carb looks like a disaster to take apart, the su would do well right now. Without a full stripdown is there any easy way to clean it out, perhaps put the high pressure airline up to it?
However i do have a spare carb sitting around i might practice the rebuild on it.

i tried taking the spare carb apart but i now hate it
why does suzuki use so many bleeding star headed screws as opposed to something which doesnt slip like a torx head or a proper nut.
Anyhow i put the airline up to the fuel pipes and the carb blew good and free, so that wasnt the problem the plumbing to it was.
What i had done when i put the filter was put A into the incomming part of the filter, and B out of the filter.
C whatever its for was the key to getting it going it wasnt connected to the filter, but when i put the pump back on (without bolting it up) the anus just started.
And my blanking plate arrived:
seems very good quality, but i havent put it on yet.
So i need advice on the plumbing, in theory i could put the pump on over the blanking plate and put the pipes on as normal, but i just dont like the idea of that, it was the thing giving me trouble so i just for the sake of it want rid of it im afraid it might leak, but also would like a bit of free space. What is going on between B and C is there petrol going to both in a certain way? how could i replicate this without the pump there.

Sounds like you've been pumping fuel round in a circle. A = inlet. B = Fuel return to tank. C = Carb.
Filter inlet wants to be on A
Filter outlet wants to be on C
Hose for B can be capped/blocked off.
The pump should have its own internal valve to keep the fuel pressure at a constant level and so doesn't need a fuel return pipe.

ah i see, good stuff so its A onto C and block B off.
Problem is B uses a really small pipe im going to have to get a length of fuel pipe

B - small pipe
Let me have another go...........
Remove old mechanical pump altogether.
Connect the pipe that went on to A ------ To the filter inlet side.
Connect the pipe that went on to C ------ To the filter outlet side (small pipe).
Block off the pipe that went on to B ------ Fuel return.
