See how long it’s gonna take :(

Ordered some 10mm tube with a 1.5mm wall today to use as fuel pick, breather and return pipe on the tank.

After some discussion with the lads, due to the size of my tank, also been advised to fit a swirl pot to prevent fuel starvation at weird angles once the fuel level starts to get down.

Simple plan again, piece of 100mm box or pipe, weld the end up and pipe in a feed and return to the main tank and feed to the engine.

Sounds simple enough but all fairly new to me so could be a disaster.

Not sure when i will get more done due to work commitments but simply by ordering stuff i am making more progress on remodelling the back of the zuk than i have in the last 10 years.

May still wuss out and go get it professionally welded, we’ll see.

Welded the long seam on the tank. Tested it on scrap first, set the welder up. Few test welds. All ok.

First 2” of the seam? Like a pterodactyl with diarrhea shit on it from a great height.

Rest of it welded ok, good penetration right through the sheet. Messed with the settings a bit, also gonna take some of Adams advice and spend more time cleaning the steel first.

Is it gonna be air tight? Dunno, the ends caps need a slight skim on one side before they will fit, just a touch too big.

That looks pretty good to me - could you run a little JB weld or something over the top to aid in airtightness?

I’ll get it all welded up and pressure tested. See how good / bad it is.

A bit more done to the tank. Hole cut for the sender unit and a pick up, breather and return fitted.

That looks very good mate. Is it the same size as an SJ tank?

Off the top of my head i can’t remember the volume, it is bigger than standard though.
