just a quick question guys on my 410 when driving at speed 45-50 mph on the motorways i am getting a big sway, i have taken all the weight off the roof rack and packed it lower down, springs and shocks seem ok could it be low tire pressures at the moment they are 20 front and 26 rear, it is not the trucks passing or crosswinds

Does it only do it on motorways?? Might just be tramlining. Often on the inside lane 2 small dips form from the weight of all the lorries. Because of the SJs narrow track you don't fit in these and it cause bump steer etc.

best way to avoid it is to drive A roads....it's not like you are in a fast car so why not enjoy nicer more scenic routes

What exactly do you mean by a sway??? As in the sj is steering itself, a wobble, vague steering?

Have a look at the rag joint at the bottom of the steering column. Mine started to go and it made the steering very loose!!!

no the steering is fine it is the car that is rocking from side to side, so much so that if you do not take your foot off the throttle I feel it would topple over

:hmm: This sounds strange? Are there any bad vibrations?? Gear and tbox levers shaking around like mad etc?? I would whip all the props off to check any UJs haven't gone dry and seized up. Also check the engine mounts, they need to be removed to inspect them. If ones failed I guess it could cause the sj to rock at certain speeds???

:hmm:

Wow, that sounds really odd. Have you got a tyre bulge perhaps?

and why are you running 20psi front 26 rear? The front is way to low.

If you're on standard size tyres try 25psi in the front.
