Toyota props
A mate has an SJ with insane prop angles, they aren't going to last long. How easy is it to fit Hi Lux or Landcruiser props? Are they the same length? I know there are some with 'different' UJ's that allow silly angles, anyone know what they are called?

Re: Toyota props
Lower it running any prop at steep angles is a bad idea

Re: Toyota props
I've got LJ70 ones on mine. Probably very similar, and loads of angle possible with the flex I now have.
The hole PCD is slightly different so will need holes elongating. The spigot diameter that sets them true is about 1mm too large I recall, so I'd to machine that down, not too hard when changing the joints.
I had to alter the length of one also. I machined a good fitting sleeve to go over the existing tube. This kept it all true and in balance.
Make sure you scribe everything up before cutting and welding though to ensure you get the joints back in alignment, and in phase with each other or you will get lots of vibration.
Not too hard to do though, and one thing I haven't broken yet.

Re: Toyota props
LJ70, is that an early Landcruiser prop? Might be hard to source. Looking for something that can be bought easily. Worth a search though. And it can't be lowered, it's on coils on the rear and spoa up front with Vit axles!

Re: Toyota props
That's a 70. My mate jack has one. They're contemporary, but I don't know if they still make them. Shouldn't be difficult to find parts from one.

Re: Toyota props
Hi i fitted a hilux double cardan prop to the rear of my sj i machined some adapter flanges as both ends of the prop have different pcd's which are both different to the sj's pcd i then shortened it and had it balanced. Heres a few pics theres more in my build thread

Re: Toyota props
Donkeychomp.
Is he running samurai props with prop spacers? if so it might be worth him just running 410 props that are slightly longer and if you get the right ones they have slightly wider yokes. removing the prop spacer slightly reduces the prop angle.
I have no issues running mine and have plenty of droop travel and probably the equivalent prop angles to 3" suspension lift with the raised transfer box.
There wont be a direct bolt on yota prop, as said the PCD is different (although I think it matches the later larger flanges?) and the spigot is 1mm bigger.
There's always the option to lengthen the female end of the slip yoke on sj shafts easily enough if 410 props aren't long enough?
I've never had any issues with sj props and have only ever see one twisted so don't really see the point in changing to yota props.
Some good reading about setting up props and angles etc.

Re: Toyota props
Love that Yota prop!
Scottie I will ask him about the spacers. I had a rear UJ explode on my old 413 a while back, but his look, well, flimsy. In comparison the Vitara axles have been really beefed up but the prop looks like a twig! I'll get some pics asap and you can see what I mean.
And that was an interesting read btw, thank you.

Re: Toyota props
Ujs shouldn't randomly explode
They only fail if the yokes bind, they have gone dry or are really worn. I check mine on a regular basis and always try to use sealed Koyo bearinngs as they last a lot longer than any others I've tried....plus it's what Suzuki use

Re: Toyota props
Here are some pics. I just think those props are too skinny to handle the Vit power. Plus if you try to accelerate hard from standstill you hear a clunking noise coming from the UJ's, but they all seem fine to me. Hmm.
