How much paint to roller?

Post by Kermes-vermilio » Sat Dec 13, 2014 9:19 pm

I apologise if this has been asked before, I had a quick search and couldn't find anything...
I have started sorting out the bodywork on my vitara and think it's going to be easier and cheaper to do a roller job colour change rather than try and match the paint up.
Just wondering how much paint I will need? Will 2 1/2 litres be enough do you think?
Thanks in advance :poke:

Depending on colour, and brand of paint, you'll need more than that.

I used 4L of Tractol yellow paint, and gave it about 2 coats all over. Going over 3 times on the higher contact areas like on the corners and that.

Some people thin the paint down with thinners/spirits to get a smooth finish. I lopped it on thick. It's got a really matte finish, like the walls in your home, but my God it's durable! Really good strong paint.

Think I paid about £20 for the tin of paint, and spent about a tenner on rollers (Used small 6" foam ones).

Get some 80grit emery cloth and go over the whole truck first to key it good for the paint.

Pretty sure I only used 2.5l on the last one I did. I used under 5l on my blue Sj and the chassis was painted as well as the entire body, inside and out.

Awesome thanks guys!

Well I ordered up 5 litres anyway, I figure if I don't use it all first time around it's always handy to have for patching things up :guns:

As much as I like the blue, I am not going to try and colour match it, so a colour change is coming.

I might start a "build thread" for it :doublethumbs:
