4x4 light not illuminating help urgent please.

Post by dougie212 » Sun Nov 15, 2015 11:27 am

Hi there,

My grand Vitara is up for sale. I have been honest on the listing and have listed an issue with the 4x4 light. Since having the lower control arm done the light hasn't illuminated and so I have been told that a pipe may have come off somewhere..... (Excuse me sounding so basic)

I've had an enquiry about the car and the chap has asked if the 4x4 still works. I've been honest and said I don't know but would like to try and get the light illuminating again so I can try. Could someone tell me where I look under the car to see if there are any tubes loose or off for the 4x4 drive. Thankyou..!!

There should be an air line to the front diff housing somewhere. I'm no entirely sure where it is but there will probably only be one pipe to it unless it's had extended breathers fitted.

Hi, on mine which is an 03 plate there is a small air pump mounted on the right hand side behind the front bumper. It's only about 2" square. From there will be a small pipe which runs to the front diff. Part metal part rubber. There's a small rubber section which runs to the diff, most likely one to be split or detached. When you engage 4 wheel drive it switches the small pump on which engages the front diff. You just need to check the pump switches on or if the hose is detached or split. I suppose it could also be that the bulb has blown. Don't wish to state the obvious but don't try and use the 4 wheel drive system unless off road. If you can get the car off the ground on stands you could see if you have 4 wheel drive.

Does it have the vacuum hubs like the jimny? Mine makes like a click click noise when engaging. Does yours?

No it's a freewheeling diff actuated by a bladder inside the diff.
