White/Silver grille badge reason for having one or the other

Just wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind and/or which sj's got a silver badge on the grille and why some got a white one, the replacement I orderedfor my Sammi looked silver in the pic and is in fact white...

My old G reg spanish samurai had a silver one...
