Will make it choke! Clean it with some carb cleaner

as said it passed the mot.. but the engine now idles very slow....
also i took it for a good run and when i got home look at the exhaust(which is new)
and the pipe is black on the inside
how do i turn up the idle? and sort out the sooty pipe?
thanks

EGR improves part throttle efficiency so your fuel economy and throttle response will suffer without it.
The idle is controlled by the ECU, you need to determine why its not fuelling correctly. Usual suspects are a bad O2 sensor or a cracked exhaust manifold, it could be a dozen other issues though, you need to download the FSM and start working through the diagnostic procedures. Did you blank off the passageways when you removed the EGR?

I was under the impression that EGR lowered efficiency, and that it's real purpose was to introduce inert gasses into the combustion chamber, which lowers peak temperatures during detonation and therefore hampers the formation of NOx?
I know you know far FAR more about engine management than I ever will, is the EGR=lower efficiency but less NOx thing a wives tale then?

I have heard that removing it makes more power and gives better throttle response/ efficiency? But I may be wrong!
