The temp gauge goes to the top when the engine warms up, I'm sure it's not actually overheating and I think the cause is incorrect sender, however I have tried a couple of replacements and they do exactly the same, I have tried an Intermotor 52545 and a Cambiare VE 718026 both have a black collar. Has anyone replaced a sender which worked and where did you get it from.

The gauge rests on the stop when cold and goes to the top if the wire is earthed. Help.

Is your samurai spanish built?

There's a few of us trying to find an aftermarket sender that actually works at the moment.

Yes, spanish , so it sounds like a common problem.
A mate who works in a car spares shop has a few 'new old stock' items which he has saved over the years , he is going to give me them to try so if I have any success I'll let you know.

I did a bodge repair by wiring in two very small dash bulbs in series to increase the resistance and this brought the needle to mid point, but I'd rather have a sender that works out the box.

I think the 34850A65011 turned out to be the correct sender for Spanish gauges (Santana)

I've got the gauge reading to roughly normal by fitting a variable resistor from a light dimmer and adjusting. I will take some readings at the weekend and calculate what resistor will be required to correct the gauge, I will post the Maplin part number on here when I have it sorted.
Then hopefully it will be a standard modification for anyone with the same problem without needing to spend £30 on an OE sender.

How does this modification work, I can understand if you put the correct value resistor inline it will make it read correct at a certain temperature but are other temperatures now incorrect. I have seen values stated at about 60 ohms will work but when very hot the sender value should be about 30 ohms and to me it's not possible to go lower than the sender (say 30,very hot) plus the resistor (60). Does this mean it will never indicate an overheat issue ??

Yes, I see how my theory is flawed however it irritates me looking at the gauge right up in the red (orange) . I will get some readings at the weekend including the resistance when the sender is placed in boiling water and hopefully the gauge will become more useful ( reading normal at normal and reading higher if the engine overheats ) and less irritating.

If I had realised my Suzuki was Spanish a couple of weeks ago when I was in Spain I would have tried to source a replacement locally.

Gave up on trying to make the temp gauge work and did this instead to go along with the OP gauge and clock I had been wanting to fit.
