Now that I think about it, my Haynes is SJ/Vitara. Gimmie a minute and I'll go have a look.

Your just guessing that because 10w40 goes in everything! - but i'd guess 10w40 too! if you want to be dead certain to get the right bits take the bits off you want to replace and takw them to the motorfactor with you, last time I wanted to replace my battery I took the old one & they took it and disposed of it for me, It saved me a trip to the tip!

Most sites ("googled" vitara 8 valve spark plugs) recommend BPR5ES or BPR5E.
As said best to just take a plug out and cross reference it if it's not already ngk .
Again just take your leads to a motorist shop, if they don't have a specific set they will just make a matching set off the rack.
Have a look at the air filter you already have, chance's are it will have a makers name and number on it that they can use to match that too.

I did a re-build on my engine because i was bored/thought it would be fun.
5L of oil is easily plenty with some to spare to keep aside for topping up. Used 10w40.
Changed oil filter, they had one at wico, can get from halfords as well. Tell them its the G16A 1.6 vitara engine and they will look up the oil filter part.
Reg of the SJ will get you the air filter.
Air filter easy enough to find on ebay
The 8v carb 1.6 engine engine code is G16A

The recommended oil for all of the Suzuki F and G-family engines is 10w/40 to the best of my knowledge.
