Hello guys. im new to this forum so i would like your help if possible.
Well my uncle was a suzuki santana 1987 model i think. From what i read in net this is pretty much the same like the samurai but it was built in spain. problem is , now he needs a dynamo ( i think power alternator in english ) but we have been told it's not the same one as samurai's. Does anyone know about it or where we can fine one?
Cheers, Peter

Hello peter welcome to the forum, where are you from? To say suzukiclubuk is a UK site it is quite international. The santana factory is in Spain and did make 410's 413's and samurais, I imagine yours is a 413 if its got the 1.3 engine, as far as I know the alternators are the same but have a different plug, I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can tell you more than I can. Also you are correct, in england we call them alternators, in old (vintage) cars they are called dynamos I think because they don't have the regulator and rectifier built in to them.

Hi and welcome Peter.
As Tramp says given the age of your SJ it may still have a dynamo (think they fitted them up to 1987 on some models). If you could take some photos that would be very helpful, showing wire colours and what type of connection/plug it has. Cheers - Darrell.

thx tramp and Darrel for the welcome. well im really not familiar with any kind of model of these cars haha. only do sports and saloon cars but have to help family :) I dont have any pics for now since the car is in mechanic's garage. im waiting for chassis or for alternator's part number to doublecheck or cross with something. By the way, the engine is 1.0 litre not the normal 1.3 so might we have some differences again?
p.s : im from sunny cyprus :)

I know there are a lot of differences in sj models around the world but I would imagine most of the European model 410s would have alternators by 87, mine did, it has a Mitsubishi alternator, Ive got a few in the workshop so I will try and find a model number for you.

Also :welcome2: to :S:cuk

Yeah agreed, I've never seen a Suzuki with a dynamo.

In fact I don't think I've ever seen anything post-1960's with a dynamo

Well welcome from Cyprus, your our second or third member from there, I havn't spoken to Cyprus geoff for a while but I think he is about, he lives at paphos and has a coil sprung samurai.
if yours is the 410 (1 litre) I'm assuming it has the 5 speed gearbox? If it has I'd have thought it would be the same as the ones in the UK so an alternators should be easy to source, you may have to post a photo of the electrical plug/connector so we can compare it

Had a look for a alternator and found this info.
84-86 models have a alternator with rectifier built in but the voltage regulator is a external separate unit.
86-93 models have a normal alternator with rectifier/regulator built in.
This external regulator is supposed to fit the early SJ and LJ models.
I have added the wire colours to a drawing from a LJ manual.
