Engine serial number

Post by Anton » Tue Jan 31, 2012 4:30 pm

Hey, people. Looking for the serial number on my SJ's replacement engine, and I can't seem to find any markings that look like a serial number. I need to declare the engine swap to the DVLA so I can get the V5 updated.

All I can find is a "1298CM3" marking on the exhaust side of the engine near the bellhousing, about half way up the block itself.

I've done a google search (and searched this and various other forums) and the best I can come up with is that it's supposed to be on the left of the block near where the engine connects to the gearbox. I assumed that meant exhaust side, near the bellhousing - roughly where mine says "1298CM3"...

It's (sort-of) snowing out, I still have a touch of flu, and I'm tired of crawling around under my truck looking for something in the shadows (my torch is on the fritz).

Help!

I'm pretty sure it's stamped on the flat machined section directly below where the capacity is i.e. the 1298CM3

Yes it is stamped there, but I think the gearbox covers it up!!!
If it's a 1298 it's probably a G13BA engine.

I think the 1324cc is the G13A
The 1298cc is the G13BA

Or it could be covered with swollen rust. My block looks like it's covered in tiny little brown flowers or something :S

That's odd, my 1600 8v definitely has the engine code on the back of the block.
So does the 1600 16v on my garage floor...

I guess the 1300s are different then

Edit: Ohhhhh serial number I see... I was going on about the model number!
