Lazy's samurai build

Post by lazy rambler » Sat Feb 25, 2012 7:48 pm

I've finally got round to starting my build, I've been putting off for far too long. All it took was buying some seats, that wont be needed for months. I need something big and visual to get me going.
This wont be a fast build but hopefully wont take too long.
For starters I'll be replacing the shackles with lifted leafs, fitting a webber card to the 1.3 and cutting back the arches (properly this time) and if it doesn't take too long a pick up conversion with a ifor style top.
This is it as it is at the moment.

Today I've made a start on fitting my new seats, got the old ones out, just have to figure out how to mount the new ones, so far I've only had one stuck nut (one fixing the passenger seat to floor) and the passenger door wont unlock?!

Managed to get the passenger door open today, the key wont turn, but you can lift the pin from the inside at least. Just have to get some material to make up some mounts for the seats. They're a bit low just bolted strait to the floor.

I just made a frame out of some 30x30x3mm angle for my drivers and that extra 6mm of height that gives seems to be about right for my seats. Haven't finished the passengers yet so can't say about that one.

I just bolted a bit across the front support and a bit across the two rear raised parts then welded some on top going front to back to bolt the seat to. (its a bit dark to go get photos now.

Looking good. Seats look nice :D

Just looked at you build and I think I'm gonna need the seat a bit higher than 6mm. Mine look like they have a lot less padding than yours.

Spaced the seats out with some wood tonight, the frame for the drivers seat needs to lift it by 15mm and the one for the passenger already has a 20mm ali box frame but needs lifting by another 50mm. Hopefully I'll get this done on the weekend.

Also ordered some brake pipes and fittings that should arrive by the weekend, so fingers crossed I'll be able to stick an MOT on by mid March :doublethumbs:

good job.

Think quite a few of us will be going for MOT's around the same time.

Then again nothing goes to plan!

looks good man, you need to get rid of those lift shackles though, evil things when used with stock springs

The shackles will go in the end and be replaced by trailmaster +2" leafs, but not sure what shocks to go for yet. Any suggestions? Was thinking procomp es 3000.

Made a start on the sub frames tonight. Had a slight change of plan on the design. I've decided to use to stock sub frame and modify it to suit the new seats.

Hopefully I'll have both seat's fully fitted by the weekend.
