New trick bits from Rockwatt

Post by Team Pink » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:11 pm

Just got my "spine" from Rockwatt. What does it do I hear you ask.

The purpose is to encircle the transfer box to prevent it splitting when you add a bit more power (or in my case a lot more) I am building my own cradle for the transfer box picking up on as many mounting points as i can. The skid plate will be tied into the spline to add additional strength where it is needed.
I spoke to Rockwatt a while back to see if he could make me one, this is the result. Richard has drawn it on CAD and the final product is laser cut. I believe that Richard has made more whilst he made mine safe in the knowledge that us tight fisted Suzuki owners would rather make our own cradles than spend serious amounts of cash on a ready made item. This is the difficult part to make the rest is simple engineering.

Looks good!

I've seen something similar elsewhere Rich ;) but it's nice to have them available in the UK now!

More to the point How much? I think that could be a worthy addition to my Tcase guard with the added torque of the dual cases!

Rock4fab do them in the states but as usual the import tax makes them kind of pricey.

Introductory offer of £42. Good value if you count hours of plotting to .001 mm accuracy and then the cad work involved ! These spines simply fit ! No jiggleing bolts, no putting all the bolts in before nipping them up!
Rocklobster gears , refurb cases , dual cases , su manifolds , jimny rocklobster conversions inc speedo drive, t/case heavy duty mounting arms and rock buckets, bespoke fabrications and machining,
Contact me for details.

yeah that's where I've seen them

That's a good price too so I will be in touch! will have to see how funds look after I've moved house though as that's going to cost me a fair bit with the deposit and fees and all the other stuff involved with moving.

I did think about making my own, however getting the fit right would have been challenging. The price in the States was OK but postage and possible import duty soon put paid to that idea. When I phoned Richard he decided that this was doable so got on with the drawing, I think this took longer than expected.
Part of my reason for making my own cradle is that I want it to be lighter than a "challenge" spec cradle. Up to now I have not used any amour under the transfer box, you can see where it has hit rocks etc but I have never smashed a case. The cradle I am making will simply help the box to slide over obstructions, if it bends a bit so be it. I have also moved the box back 5" to enable the engine to move back behind the front axle thus making the mountings redundant. I also have very little room to work with, seats are 4" lower than standard plus I am trying to fit a 2.5" exhaust in the space!

As long as it not an early 410 case all the casings are the same ;)
