Front driver's side drive shaft issues.

Post by Jai » Thu Oct 04, 2012 1:22 pm

I have a Calmini lift kit on my J reg vitara. A consequence of the kit is it pulls the drive shaft away from the wheel hub and thus wobbles when driving (sounds and feels like driving on rumble strips). I have been told that lengthening the drive shaft will help fix the problem. But will this be a problem with strength issues of the drive shaft? And any other suggestions on fixing the problem would be gratefully recieved. I recently changed the drive shaft because the cv bearings popped and the symptoms have got worse. Do you know if I can buy drive shafts already lengthened? The front hubs are permanent lock.

Gagging to go off road again.

Thanks

I have a similar problem I think. I noticed that my front wheel kind of locks up and judders. Usually when I have a bit of steering lock on and the weight is in the right place.

It sounds like this. I have a 2" lift except everything is standard barring the longer shackles.

Should I have these axle drop things to compensate ?

I thought you had a sj Christoff? Yours sounds like a CV joint.

The OPs problem is to do with the front IFS being lifted putting to much of an angle on the front drive shafts

Yes it's an SJ. Just sounds like my fault and thought they would be similar

It's funny how iv had it 2 years and only just noticing the fault. Unless the stress has got to the point that its developed into wear and now into noise and "the fault"

By the way what's OP and IFS, Im sure il kick myself. :S :er:

Thanks ScottieJ, I'm still learning. Good info posted, thanks. I'm not sure if the kit was fitted with diff drop brackets or not, and strut spacers. Still, thanks to your link I now know what I'm looking at and it's helping me understand. How would I know, without asking the prev owner, if the spacers are fitted and the diff drop? I have looked but I don't know the originals. My vitara has a sump guard and the diff is as good as touching it.
