RangeRover Classic 300TDI UPDATE 28/07/13
RangeRover Classic 300TDI UPDATE 28/07/13
lets start off with the story behind the car...
my dad had a Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 TD which binge drunk fuel, he had always wanted a rangie but was looking at the 2004 shape originally, a "so called" friend of his was selling a classic 300TDI, looked a bit tatty on the outside but he was told buy the "so called" friend that it only needed a little work to be done on it, the first bill from the so called "specialist" in Liverpool was over £1100, not sure what the other two bills were but not cheap either, they were told to change the disc splash gaurds and only replaced one of them which rattles and catches the disc, the other is still the old one which flops around in the wind and scrapes the disc, all discs are new and calipers have been reconditioned i think, the drivers side front brake pipe bracket is snapped off and the pipes are not secured so the ABS feed pipe has snapped off, the passenger side pipes have been cable tied as the bracket is missing on that side which is a disaster waiting to happen, the sensors for the suspension hight level have been left dangling in the air instead of being secured, the pads rattle around in the front calipers..
the bodywork is a little rough but the inside of rear arches are covered in fibreglass, the boot floor had been covered in fibreglass to hide all the rust, the boot floor is extremely rotten, we are going to be renting a workshop so that we can fix the rangie and build my caravan...
not sure when work with start on the rangie as my dad is working away alot and he needs to find the money to buy the bits to fix all of this...
dont suppose anyone would know where we can get a rangerover classic boot floor from?
here are some pics...
My Zuk and my dads Rangie.. havng the new engine fitted.. new engine.. bodge it gasket that was on the lift pump.. been replaced with instant gasket.. engine fitted.. wind deflectors fitted (my zuki hiding behind rangie)

Re: RangeRover Classic 300TDI
The 300TDi is a good reliable engine so long as you don't run it at high revs. Shame it's so damned heavy though.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: RangeRover Classic 300TDI
My Mum had a 300TDi Discovery like yours Tom, but Factory stock and it was very reliable. Only engine problems it had were from perished fuel hose and two cylinder head gaskets. It did one in coming Northbound up the M1 from the deep south and the other coming Southbound on the M1 from the frozen north. I think the MK1 Discoveries needed another gear, or an overdrive, for motorway cruising.

Re: RangeRover Classic 300TDI
yesterday we started a couple of repairs on the rangie..
we fixed the drivers side brake pipe bracket and fitted a new ABS brake pipe..
here is the bracket.. the dust cover for the disc had been replaced by the "specialist" and the brake pipe bracket is fitted to the dust cover, so when removing the bracket they obviously snapped off the bolt and never repaired the damage they had done...
here is where the bracket had been rubbing on the spring.. the rangie has these wires on the brake pads to tell you when they ned to be changed, the "specialists" had cut the wires off the pads and fitted them, they also left the wires that feed it dangling around behind the disc...
if anyone on here has any advice at all that please give it, my dad has had a nightmare with forums and been spoken to like sh*t by people on certain LR forums, and since ive never been spoken to like that by anyone on here hed be happy with any help from you all... never seen a forum so friendly or so alive than SCUK.. will keep you all updated on the zuk, trailer and rangie...
