140 miles in a sj410, any advice please?

Post by Jay18 » Sun Oct 27, 2013 5:34 pm

As in title I'm going to be driving down the m6 to the mrs family an need to know what I should take with me and what checks to do to the zuk before heading down there..
She's got a 4 speed box at the moment still haven't got round to fitting the 5 speed..

Any advice is extremely helpful, very nervous of this as I have only gone as far as 50 miles in it and never driven on a motorway before..

just a general check over on things ie wheel bearings lights, tyres, levels etc and you will be fine! maybe stop of every 75 miles or so and check over things/cool down period! and you will be good to go ;)

Usual sensible checks before you bud. Oil, water, brake fluid. Even if it never uses oil or water all ways hand to carry a gallon of each.

I usually do all my tyre pressures too.

Don't feel the need go flying just because your on a motorway, I generally sit around truck speed 55mph.

A quick grease of all prop shafts won't harm it either, most SJs aren't used to sitting at a constant high speed and you'd be surprised how warm drive lines get.

Just enjoy the ride!

If you generally look after your truck, it should be fine if you take it steady.

They are far from high speed cruisers, but be patient, sit behind a truck in the LH lane and it should be OK.

I'm only looking at going about 50, I've got a good sound system so the noise will drown out easily lol, I always carry a 5L bottle of oil with me and a bottle of water and brake fluid, I plan on making a couple of stops on the way just to give it a quick rest and have some food, she has an oil leak but it's not too serious I don't think, I have breakdown cover so if the worst happens I can get back home..

Sounds like you're plenty prepared to me. You'll find you want to stop to stretch your legs more than the car needs to.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

I have it so I can hear what the zuk is doing and I've got comfy seats in it so should be okay, I can stretch my legs in it cause I pushed the seats as far back as they could go :)

Get in SJ. Turn key. Arrive at destination. Turn off.

If you drive 20 miles a day then you do 140 miles in a week. Doing it in one will be easier on the truck so dont worry aboit it.
