help needed

I have tried to start my engine today, after having rebuild it, and it had been sitting for a coupla weeks. I hooked up the fuel pump, put 12 volt on the coil, and on the starter motor. she turned over, but just wouldn't start up. what could be the problem?

we set the timing when we rebuilt the engine, and I tried to reverse the leads, incase the timing was 180 degrees out. I had fuel to the carb, and even tried to use some ether, but this didn't work either.

It is sparking isn't it?

this is where I am assuming it is. I took the coil of the loom, and hooked it up to straight 12 volt, and connected the high tension lead to the dizzy. the coil did get very warm though, almost too hot to touch. might replace the dizzy points tonight, and ensure the timing is correct. I believe the ht leads are all fine, as I did replace two when we rebuilt it. spark plugs are brand new

Just remove a plug, fit it back into the lead. Lay the plug onto onto a metal part of the engine and get someone to turn the engine over. You will see if it's sparking then.

Did you have the two wires between the coil and the dizzy connected?
Without those it definitely won't start!

two wires? I had positive and negative on the coil, and the ht lead from the center of the coil to the centre of the dizzy. what other wire is needed?

Connect 12v without the ballast resister will make it get hot.
The coil only gets 12v when cranking over.
The coil gets it's earth via the points via the dizzy.
When they open that discharges the coil via the HT lead.

Ahhhh damn tricked by the 410 again! But as you can see there are a few wires that need to be there!
Sorry about that, my sammy has 2 wires from the dizzy to the coil, + the king lead

alright, I'll walk the walk of shame. I messed up bigtime.

so does the brown wire conect to the body of the dizzy? I suppose I can't do without the diode, as the starter will always engage? and could I test run it without the noise supressor?
