More 'Umft' out of a SJ 410 engine.
Hi guys,
After finishing the bodywork on my donor body, I'm toying with the idea of putting in a 1.6 Vitara engine into my SJ. Main reason is that I'm fed up of crawling up hills at 30mph with some complete cunt driving only 3" away from my bumper.
But, before spending beer tokens on a 1.6 engine, I was wondering if there was any way of getting a bit more power out of the bog standard F10A engine?

Bike carbs is the usual answer, or a turbo might work (the F10 is pretty sturdy) but to be honest, the 1.6 is probably easier than either of those.

I object to the use of the word 'umft' on this forum.
And yes a 1.6 is really the only option.

1 1/2" SU gives a good improvement but nothing like what you'll get from a 1.6.

I guess that 1.6 it is then, better wait for the bank balance to come up a bit first! Luckily, I already have a 1.3 Gearbox
Slamming on the brakes wouldn't be the best of ideas, there's a chance of them hitting me... I just adjusted the brake light switch so it lights up before any braking force is applied I then watch them slam on the brakes.

Haha get a heavy duty bumper. My mate crashed his vitara into mine the other day.
Smashed his headlight and ripped half the grill off! No damage to mine

Re: More 'Umft' out of a SJ 410 engine.
Heavy duty bumpers are on the list (quite close to the bottom). I've been having a read about what modifications that need doing but I have some questions.
1) My SJ has a 2" Shackle lift. Does this mean that I won't need to put in extended bump stops or modify the sump on the 1.6 engine?
2) I can't find much info on what needs doing to the wiring. Is there much modifying that needs doing?
3) What is the exact type of engine that I need, is it the 1.6 8V out of a Vitara JLX (G16A)?
4) What type of starter do I need, there are loads of suggestions, but what's actually been used straight out of the box without having to grind a chunk out of it?
5) Can anybody that has done it give a list of stuff that I'll need and possibly a few photos of their engine bay?
Any help would be much appreciated.

The 2" shackle lift will mean your ride is rock hard and you must be bouncing all over the place! You can buy 2" shock spacers which makes things a lot better but the shackles will kill your leafs (I speak from experience).
A 1.6 8v carb engine (vit) would be ideal as less hassle with the wiring.
