high idle on efi jap sj

Post by john86 » Sun Dec 01, 2013 6:39 pm

Hi i have just bought a jap import 96 sj with fuel injection throttle body set up when started up the engine idles at 3000 revs for 20 mins then drops to normal the check engine light also comes on for 5mins i have checked the idle valve and the valve works fine the revs dont drop even when the valve has opened.
Anyone any ideas of what to check next

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Did you check to see what the fault code was?

Check the fuse box for a diagnostic slot, if you have one then just insert a fuse and count the flashes. Otherwise you will have to find the monitor coupler (diagnostic socket) and insert a jumper.

Rhino man i checked the diagnostic port no errors the light that actually was on was the cat converter light goes of after a few minutes prob just a the sensor on the cat cant see that causing the high idle i can hear a very slight misfire when the car is ticking over may change the plugs tomorow.

I have also removed all the vacum hoses to the throttle body but made no difference to the high idle

Round the back of the throttle body is a vacuum operated valve for high idle, that should be retracted by the ECU on start up, check that that is not stuck.

Thanks for the quick response

I checked it i looked at it once the car heated up it popped out as it should i also turned the valve body one complete turn clockwise this made no difference to the idle .

Got it sorted thanks for your help rhinoman i opened up the valve housing again and turned the gold cover surround on the valve another half turn . The idle moves up and down between 1-1500 on cold then settles around 1000 .Much better than between 2500 and 3000.

My problem is the high rpm idle when cold.

Hello!
I have a 1300 ccm EFI Suzuki Samurai (G13BA). The year of manufacture is 1990.
My problem is the high rpm idle when cold.
The idle is between 2500 and 2700 for ~8 minutes.
When it reaches the operating temperature the idle drops slowly to 1000.
I don't know what is the problem. Can you help me?

I made a video and uploaded to youtube.

At 2:50 it sounds bad. :(
