XUD conversion Member cross with a cross member
XUD conversion Member cross with a cross member
Hi Folks
I am putting a Pug DT and LDV box into my SJ. I have things in position but I am not sure what to do with the LDV cross member. Where ever it goes it seems to be in the way of the steering and suspension. I have fabricated plates to bolt it (the cut down cross member ) between the SJ chassis rails. I was just about to take the grinder to it and cut it into two small and less stable engine mounts but I thought I would get some advice first.
Any ideas?

I can't visualise what you mean?
Can you post some pictures. Most people just fabricate engine mounts from scratch rather than fit a crossmember?

Mine is on custom mounts. Easier job than fitting cross member
Re: XUD conversion Member cross with a cross member
I would loose the crossmember and make custom mounts as said.

d_r_1989 - got photos of your mounts? Might help if he's got something to draw inspiration from.

Ill try get to unit tonight and get some
Re: XUD conversion Member cross with a cross member
Again we fabricated custom mounts, although the engine I sourced didn't come with a cross member another thing to bare in mind is the height of the engine as it will be close to the sump if you are still spring under axle.
I would post pictures but don't have any of the mounts on my phone, they're not the prettiest of things either.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply. I am going to chop up the cross member and create something ugly. I would appreciate and pics of the custom mounts or any ideas about how haw forward the engine should sit.

I know this shows my novice credentials but,......can I stick my axle under the spring? Would this be a useful mod?
The sj is not going on the road.
