Fuel pump problem, pulling my hair out...GRRRRRR!!!
Took out the fuel tank from my 95 Samurai fuel injection to clean it and paint it up.Put it back in - won't start.I couldn't hear the in tank pump doing anything,so took tank off again, took the in tank pump out and tested on the bench - working fine.Put it back in etc etc, turned the ignition on and can hear the pump doing its thing.I turned it over twice and the pump buzzes away for about 3-4 seconds then a clicking sound from a relay under the dash makes it stop. After 2 or 3 tries the pump is now not buzzing but the relay under the dash still clicks in after 3-4 seconds and obviously doesn't start. It was all running fine before I took it apart, first time starter etc.Anyone got any ideas before I put a match to it.Ta.

How many wires does the fuel pump have? it might be trying to earth through the tank... but if its all painted it might not earth well enough
Maybe undo one of the bolts and wire brush the paint off around it

I've had the pump out of the tank and its got 2 wires,an earth and live,i tried it on a 12v battery and it worked so I guess its not earthed through the tank itself.I am wondering whether I have a blockage in the fuel pipes up to the engine - i'll blow them through tomorrow.I'll post a couple of the pictures of the pump underneath.

The fuel pump should run for three seconds at key on to prime the system and then turn off, it will turn on again when the starter is engaged and the engine is turning. The fuel pump relay is clearly operating, you need to check that power is getting to the pump.

Thanks Rhinoman, all working now.I think the pump had semi seized over the last 4 or 5 months of not being started and has now loosened itself up.
