Meet turq the tidy looking samurai with at least 30 MOT patches.

So basically its pretty crap underneath even tho it looks alright on top.
It came as pictured. Runs like crap due to the as in carb having the choke
Welded open. So after sorting some of its MOT fails it became apparent
This cars a bit of a turd and in my usual style wasn't going to be quick
Fix and yet another project I didn't want.

So turq was delivered to the barn. Some parts I didn't want like the wheels
Roof hubcaps and grille were removed and put up for sale to
Recoup some of the cost. I wanted a vehicle I could get on the road by mid Feb
To replace the tin topfor a while then I can flog it on after a while.

I decided to start with the brakes and have a look at the front bearing that caused the MOT fail. Hubs off. Most of the bolts or nuts i had to remove are barely more than finger tight

So the bearing? Loose nuts and lock washer not actually folded over. Bearing
And seal shagged. Bunged a good used hub and bearing of a spare axle so good for
A while now.

So as soon as the wheels came off I could see the discs and pad where finished.
So the cheap 410 front axle I'd bought previously gets robbed of its unused brand new discs and pads.Sweet! This £50 axle also donated its new earls braided hoses and calipers. Came with fwhs too

So why did I need the calipers? Fail

So back plates wirebrushed hubs cleaned and calipers changed.
Bolts tightened!

So after looking at the brakes I had a few hours left to tidy the front.

The bumper previously had the bottom trimmed to clear the naff recovery point that was mounted to the front so with the tow ball thing taken off I moved the reg plate lower to its originally position. late spec grille removed I sprayed my tin tops old grille black and chucked it on. Much better less cutesy looking. Bumper painted and
Indicators cleaned up too.

So with the front neatened up

I moved onto the back to look at the rear brakes as this was one of the failures
On the cars MOT . with the drums off I find both have worn rather a lot and both around 20 hairline cracks. So in the bin they go. After a rumaged I dug out all the parts to do the diy rear disc except for some long ht bolts.

Whilst in the area I had a look under the car an noticed a hole peaking out near the end of the sill

Poke, prod , crunch. Doh!


It would appear this old mot patch has seen its last days as have most of them as the metal below has just rotted away.
Then I began peeling away my lovely samurais bodged past. I knew it was coming. Bloody fibreglass.
I hate the stuff.

With this discovery and the trail of thin crappy steel getting longer I grabbed mister angry dusted off the welder and got chopping,bashing, welding and grinding. I wasn't going for a perfect or awe inspiring finish. Just solid and as much rot removed as possible. I started at the passengers side and worked around.

Cheers dude. Its getting there. Body hopefully off next week if i can group together enough mates To lift the body off. The idea is to
Keep it looking as stock as possible outside as i think that ads to the value. It shows thats its not stuffed with fibreglass, filler and cardboard like alot of zooks out there.
