Idle issues!!!

Post by Bigtinasoup » Thu Jun 23, 2016 8:26 pm

Hello all. I can't get my 1.3 samurai engine to hold idle. It also cuts out alot when I'm driving. Even with the idle control screw turned up it will still hurt and eventually cut out. Any ideas? Cheers.

Has it been standing for a while? I'd clean the carb myself and see if that fixes it.
If it ticks over...leave it

I swapped out the filter and she ran better. But had tappers off. How is the best way to clean out a carb on one of these?? Cheers. Jack

By changing it to a Hyundai, Daihatsu or Subaru (straight swaps), a Webber (easy swap, quite pricey) or an SU conversion.

Standard SJ carbs aren't worth wasting any time or money on!

Webber bolt on kits are a couple of hundred quid, or you can buy a HIF44 SU Carb and get your intake manifold mandated by Rockwatt (that's what I did, and most of us do). It's a well travelled path, lots of write-ups on it and plenty of advice on here.
