Okay so my sj410 ran out of fuel so I put a 5l can of petrol in. I drove and got a trailer of logs down the road about 2miles away and back. I then drove around my property a bit only covering about a mile. I let it idle for 15mins the next day to let it warm up and it cuts out after about ten mins, so I tried restarting but nothing. So I put 5 more litres of fuel in and it fires up.
I don't have leaking fuel lines or tank as they have just been replaced.
I also notice today while changing the engine oil today it did smell very slightly of petrol but not much, and it did ignite very well when I threw it on the bonfire. I did read something about the diaphragm on the fuel pump can cause a fuel leak in to the sump, but could something else cause this.
Any help appreciated

Hmm yes the oil should not be flammable unless its full of fuel. and as the fuel pump is a prime location for fuel and oil mixing I'd say its a likely candidate.
Another possible might be fuel getting past the rings, but you would probably notice it running really rich.
Whatever it is though I would advise you don't drive it or run the engine. Fuel in oil will severely reduce the lubricating properties of the oil and you will break something more expensive...

Oh no, it was running very rich and the plugs were extremely black and covered in soot. I'm guessing it is the rings as if it was the pump diaphragm it would be running lean as not enough fuel would be getting to the engine, correct me if I'm wrong? And alot more fuel would be getting past.
I have a spare 1.0 engine but it is out of a Santana so will I have to alter the wiring. It also has a 5speed attached so I might just up grade from 4 speed as long as there's no modification needed?

I have no way to compression test either to see if it is the rings.

The Santana engine is identical so no need to change any wiring. Just swap your temp sender over as the Spanish one has a different resistance.

Thanks guys, i might change the fuel pump first as that's easiest and it could have been running rich because the choke was slightly stuck on with the old cable it had. I've replaced the cable so that's sorted now. I'm going to use the pump from the Santana but was wondering if when removing it is there any gasket that could get damaged? Twiss i would buy a tester but i have 0 money, like 0 so i'll try this first.
I'm also not going to change the engine yet as i haven't got the Santana prop.
