Andys dabble in disco land.
Re: Andys dabble in disco land.
Still trundling along
my mate picked up my 99p (told mate to give sellet a fiver) part worns, almost new infact! Bargain. So had them fitted along with two new ones up front ( handy knowing tyre fitters and Mot testers)
New cambelt fitted, was all going well, casually taking it appart
With a good friend and having a catch up and planning what we could do later that day as it was going so well . . . .
4 hours to get the rusted solid crank gear off soon fudged that idea up, flushed the intercooler out with brake cleaner and it now sounds quieter and pulls very well, new turbo pipes needed now as the ones fitted have gone very soft.
Discovered the rad has seen better days and started loosing water after refitting it, its an all metal type. These are avalible from around 180 plus vat, or an ally plastic type was 80 quid ish. I really wanted to stick with the all metal type so popped to my local old school rad guy and hes done me a recore exchange for £130+vat. Went and picked it up and now mines stopped leaking, typical.
Ordered new hoses aswell.
My £800 disco is now around a £ 1500 disco. But appart from the rot i think that about it for stuff it needs deperately.
Will be getting a recon box and transfer sometime soon, which is around £1500 retail quid but handily with a mate whos been building them for years i can get it done by him for cost of parts
around £200 to do both
So it all works out like this,
Found tbox in charity shop, £17,
needed an r380 gearbox so put a wanted ad on local site,
£50 gearbox with tbox,
Agreed to sell tbox to local pay n play site owner £40
Go to collected gbox/tbox combo and end up leaving with two!
£90 for the pair, bargain.
Drop 1 tbox to pay n play owner £50 as left handbrake drum on.
Leaves me with one gbox/tbox combo and gearbox i want,
Sell combo to gearbox recon specialist £200!
All in leaves me with free gbox tbox and minus a tenner of diesel£123 in me back pocket to go towards the recon parts.
Long winded but worked out well,

Yea, the tip i use has a on site charity shop which is a great idea,
So i always have a cheeky look.
Picked up a black and decker workmate (£3) and saw the tbox sat it an old gardening trolley! Took it as fate and bought it.
Does have a slight clonk in the centre diff but its being rebuilt anyways. Its also a hard to find Q cut gearset so quieter and stronger. Like a td5 box but with difflock.

Yeah same sort of thing here, but only furniture mainly, also it's outside and everything is there come rain or shine, plus I think the cash goes into staff pockets. Don't quote me on that though

Nice one, Andy! Keep this up, and you'll get a reputation for being a spare parts guy.
Oh, wait...
Oh, wait...

Re: Andys dabble in disco land.
Few bits done recently, so the only desperate job left now is rust.
Everything else is good enough, and other bits will be improved as and when they can be done cheaply
Trailer test passed so now now my bank balance was £700 lighter
Its the perfect time to investigate the already assumed knackered
rear brakes, and bearings.
Turns out the metal to metal noise i could head wasnt a worn pad but a worn caliper , this in turn allows the pad to drop and begin to part the hub from the disc.

When doing the cambelt. I discovered the rad had seen better days
so a trip to my local rad specialist and a recore was ordered and my old one left in exchange.
