Number plate relocation

Post by combatkenz » Fri Mar 02, 2018 11:13 am

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have there number plate located on the bonnet and is it legal? I'm fitting a winch bumper so wanted to stick it to the front of the bonnet.

I think that some people have put the number plate on the windscreen lower surround, but I don't know the legality of that. On the bonnet it'll be difficult to see, so I would imagine that it's illegal, but I don't know for sure.

I think there are rules on the angle of your plates so flat to the bonnet top I would be ruled as illegal. Whether you can squeeze it on the front of the bonnet so it sits upright or not I don't know, but as Anton said many go with it under the windscreen on the surround.

Flat on the bonnet is illegal on an SJ. As I found out... :hahaha:

I’ve seen some stuck to the flat upright piece of the bonnet at the front.... that’s where I was going to mount it.

Mine is stuck to the from of the Bonnet. I haven't had it long enough to mot yet but presumably it was ok for previous MOT. Will post a pic in a bit.

Hopefully will have Been to MOT centre one way or another in the next week. Will let you know what was said about it then.

Only my old discovery I tried using both velcro and magnets to hold the number plate to the winch bumper (so that it could be removed for using the winch or pandp sites) but neither we able to stand up to water crossings or spray off deep puddles.

Larry,
That's how I want to mount mine so please let me know how you get on  . It looks good to me and it's clearly visible so you should be fine. I've heard something about the plate needing to be reflective and obviously spacing and font needs to be correct.

MOT won't cover number plates. That is illegal and it cost me £60 to find out. Up to you though....
