Just bought an LJ80...

Post by 88SJ » Mon Sep 17, 2018 8:47 pm

So...after 30+ years of driving SJs, Vitaras and a couple of Samurais I have finally found an LJ80. It was in Ireland (Southern) but is on it's way to me.

In with the deal I have;
the stock engine and gearbox which is fitted in the vehicle....but I'm told it smokes!!!
a 1.0l engine and gearbox
a 1.3l engine and gearbox.

It would be good to hear any experience on these engines. My guess is the 1.0 would probably work best although I am quite keen to leave the standard set up. In any event I think a refresh of one of the above is called for. Thoughts??....

I have a bikini hood and rear dust cover but would like to fit a full hood. Fortunately the frame is coming with the truck so one less thing to source

Anyone got a standard front bumper available?

I also need a rear bumper.

Finally I'd like to replace the rear tailgate

I'll throw some pictures up when the LJ lands....

thanks
Paul

One more thing...the wheel spacers have gone and I'd like to find a set of steel wheels for this truck - anyone got any of these?

I think a lot of steel wheels got weighed in when scrap metal prices were high....

Cheers
Paul

That’s a good looking LJ, but can I say hate the wheels on it :yuk: as you say needs steels. Are you going 8 spoke or originals? I know originals are hard to find.

If you find a front bumper I could be interested in what you have, although I would like the real thing. Never seen one with a rear bumper :er:
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Mine has an SJ rear bumper. It's not soooo bad but is gunna go and I'm gunna fit the rear bumper section that takes the lights

It's quite a nice thing I've got....so far, first impressions are good

That little beauty must've cost you a pretty penny! LJ's aren't cheap...

It's a damned fine example though, from the pics!

I should have bought one years ago when they were a few hundred quid..a few thousand now but the whole old car scene is just mental right...look what SJs are going for now!!!

My LJ passed its MOT test yesterday so rocking...V55/5 sent off with docs and RFL funds so should be on the road in a few weeks...

The wheel spacers have gone Robbie - a marginal improvement. 8-spokes will probably go on while I find some original wheels
