SJ 413 Newbie
Hi
I have recently bought a very nicely dented SJ413 and have been busy making it slightly more presentable
My dad has a Suzuki Blitz which was converted from a SJ413
We have a problem with the rear differential which sheared off a large number of bits of cog
Does anyone have any suggestions on finding a replacement
The original car was F reg
I have been trawling the internet for a month and found nothing
Any help would be really appreciated
Cheers Stefan

Re: SJ 413 Newbie
I have just typed in 'Suzuki SJ differential' into eBay and it came up with a few choices, there must be some complete axles out there. Is the 410 axle the same as a 413?

410 413 are the same just different diffs. Samurai are different again

An F reg is probably a Samurai, but it could still be a 413. The 413 has a 3.9 diff, the Samurai has a 3.7 diff. They're interchangeable, but don't run a 3.9 in the back and a 3.7 in the front (or vice-versa) as you could cause transmission breakages if you drive over any grippy surfaces in 4wd.
There are a couple of guys on here who break SJ's regularly. Andyrew and Mike spring immediately to mind.

complicated, unless you know. it was just that I have a 410 that I am intending to take the back plates and drums off to go on an LJ axle. Which would leave the casing, diff and half shafts needing a home.

Probably better to start your own thread about that, otherwise things will get complicated and Stefan might not get the help he's after.

Re: SJ 413 Newbie
I would definitely be interested in taking the casing diff and half shafts from the 410. What is the diff ratio? My mechanics said the front diff on the blitz is different from the rear diff ratio. What is the best way to move forward?
Thanks Stefan

Re: SJ 413 Newbie
410 diffs are not interchangable with 413 and Samurai diffs. They're physically smaller. I believe that they will interchange with LJ diffs, but I may be wrong - Donkeychomp or ScottieJ will probably know that.
When Robbie said that 410 and 413 axles are the same but with different diffs, he meant that the 410 axle housing is the same width, but the diff is physically smaller. You can't put a 413 diff in a 410 axle (or vice-versa). The samurai axle is wider than the 410 or 413 axle, but with interchangable diffs.
You need a 413 diff, and it has to be a rear one. The splines for the halfshafts are different from front to rear.
A samurai rear diff will fit, but the ratio will be off. That may be acceptable to you, but be careful how you drive the vehicle if you do that. If you keep it in 2wd (Road car) then it'll probably never be an issue.
I had a 413 with narrow axles, and swapped in the axles from a samurai for better track width and better clearance for my big mud tyres (they rubbed on full articulation).
If you can't find one 413 diff, then a pair of samurai diffs might be a solution. Swapping the whole axle involves cutting off spring perches and welding them back on further inboard, as 413's have springs mounted further in than Samurai's.
Best option is to find a 413 diff though.
*Edit* - 410 diffs are also a very different ratio to 413 diffs.

Anton I didn’t know that they were physical smaller, lean something new every day. LJ and 410 are the same size, got 410 in my LJ axles
