Bad knocking from engine

Hi all I am new to hear and only had my jimny for 6 months.. it has developed a really bad knock in the engine some where. A mate who’s a mechanic says it sound like rod knock so am looking for a new engine.. but looking across the forums I have managed to confuse my self.. I have a 2003 jimny soft top with the g13bb engine in it.. so I have been looking for a engine but have read that the soft tops have a different crank sensor in them is this correct for this engine or will any g13bb engine be fine to buy and drop in it???

If it is a g13 engine, Early models just had a cam sensor, Later had cam and crank sensor.
