Tires

Post by Mole » Mon Mar 24, 2025 9:51 am

Morning,
I'm trying to gauge tire sizes and if needs be wheel offsets, can any boby give me an idea of what size these might be. I love the look of this sj and would like to eventually achieve something similar (all tho a long way off yet)

Those are 33x12.50r15

While they look cool they won’t perform as well as a narrower tyre on an SJ. 33x10.50r15 work a lot better.

You need a lot of lift or cutting to fit 33” tyres, there’s plenty of us on the forum running 33” tyres

Thanks for the reply, yeah I figured there would be lifting and trimming involved, Presumably rubber like that would require a 2.5 - 3 inch ofset wheel somthing like that? also would the t-case reduction have to be more than 4.16-1

I run vitara 15x10 wheels. Not sure of the off set. JeepYJ springs and plenty of wheel arch cutting. Reduced gearing in the t/box and diffs.

See my build, Scotties, Dan2k.

Them wheels in that picture look like et -30
I run similar wheels on both my sjs but neither of mine are on leafs anymore. One of my sjs runs 4.8 diffs with standard samurai transfer box and the other 5.12 diffs with samurai transfer box again.
Using scotties gear ratio calculator, 4.3 diffs with a 4.16 transfer box is closest to standard gearing for 33s with a good low box.

OK thanks. The diff ratio is that something that changed with years and models or something that gets swapped out. I know the jimny changed diffs gearing with there vvt model.
This is all premature at the moment but I like to know and understand (in the loosest terms) before hand so iv got a rough idea of where I'm heading. So thanks for the patience

Swapped out. Only changes were sj and samurai but they're still too high a ratio for anything above 29s without transfer box ratios being changed
