rear leafs on the front
rear leafs on the front
hi guys my front leafs are really soft and bending the wrong way due to the fact there more than 20 years old, i was thinking of putting the rear leafs straight onto the front as i have a few pairs of rears kicking about, would this afect anything? do i need change anything else if i do this? any help would be much appreciated thanks matt
Re: rear leafs on the front
This will give a small lift, so you might need to lift the back to level your sj out.
If you use the stock chassis mount you'll need to either make some missing links or make some new mounts to move the front shackle mount forwards, this will move the front axle about 1.5" forward depending on how you do it, that can be a good thing though as it means more bulkhead clearance for larger tyres.
missing links or you could build a hybrid set of springs using the top leaf in the front pack and 1 or 2 of the leafs from a rear pack.
or you can use an adapter plate like this on the chassis mount to keep the axle in the stock position and not have to mod the shackle mount. for ruf use the middle hole this pic is with YJ springs mounted and missing links but it will give you an idea of how it works.

Re: rear leafs on the front
I just thought I would add....... As standard SJ front spring are just about flat, If they are just flat I wouldn't be worrying about them!
Re: rear leafs on the front
there not flat there bending down at each end so when you go over a small bump you can hear it banging
