Hello from North Cyprus.

Post by esentepebill » Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:44 am

Hi from North Cyprus.

UK Born and bred, but retired to North Cyprus a couple of years ago, It's a bit boring being retired but i may have the chance to buy this...................

Image

It's 1990 and 1.6 Engine 4x4 JLX. I know the head gasket has blown twice, so there could be probs under the head as well. and the head could be warped, There is no water in the OIL. There is also problems with the water system, as the last owner used to top up with tap water, which is a no-go here due to the amount of lime. The lime can block house taps in a couple of weeks.

The body work is a bit tatty, but solid, as is the inside. So it does need a fair bit of work to put it right, so i was going to ask what kind of price would this anus bring in the UK, in it's current state.

Thanks.

Bill.

Cyprus is different, anything with 4wd is quite expensive! Have you met our resident cypriot? Cyprus Geoff? He's south of the island (paphos - the Greek side) tbh I don't what the deal is crossing the north/south border but i think he is a member of a 4wd club & I'm sure he would be able to help you, his profile is here if you want to contact him - he's a nice bloke! http://forum.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/me ... file/u,68/ if you do buy this vitara we will all be happy to help with advice but ultimatley it will be you doing the work! It sounds like the engine has a cooling issue

Hi Bill, I am in North cyprus too ....... and know Geoff south of the border! - sure he will be along soon to say hi.. not sure how long you have been here but good luck with the offer of £300 - £350..... they will be looking at £3000 minimum - I paid £3000 for my 1990 Sammy!
If you are wanting to go off roading there are clubs North and South that I belong to... not a deal of mud - but some really good drives!

Hi Kibris.

Been here 2 years now. Def would not pay £3000 though. The guy who owns the anus is now working in Nigeria and will not be coming back for quite a few years. But he will out next month for a 1 day visit, then going over the South for a wedding then back to Nigeria.

So will have a talk to him. The anus has been used by a guy who was working here. He has gone also. I checked the anus this morning. Could not see any sign of water on the Oil Filler Cap, but the dipstick shows no Oil. And i believe it used a hell of a lot water. Can't do much as can't get hold of the keys to start it up.

Yes you are correct some old cars go for really silly prices over here. But he needs to get rid of it as it is going to "In the way" soon. But i will let you all know the outcome. PS We are in the Esentepe area. Inbetween Esentepe & Tatlisu.

Cheers.

Bill.

It's ok, I can remember Geoff paying a lot for his Sammy (about £5500!) But then if you live in Cyprus you are going to need 4wd for the roads, that's why I imagine the costs are so high!

:welcome: to the forum, these engines are so easy to work on so as long as the price is right I'd go for it.

Hi Mate.

You would not believe the price of both new & old cars here. Trouble is they have to export everything here in the North. Even the local beer comes from Turkey. And of course import tax plays a big part in it. But i will try my best to buy the anus. I really need something to do. There was a 30 year old Merc for sale on one of the forums not to long ago, the guy was looking for £5000 and there was a lot of rust on it. They sell a lot of "Grey" imports from Japan here. And this. RENAULT LAGUNA Saloon 1.6 I 2003 100000 KM 3000 Euro.

Still we do get a lot of sunshine hear and the beer is quite cheap.

Hi. Was your Sammy in full running order when you bought it. As the one i am after does have quite a few problems. I just found out today one of the spark plugs blew out of the head, the local garage repaired the head with "White Metal." ???? and put the plug back in. And it would seem the water stystem is full of lime.

Bill.
