Like Twiss said diesel engines in an SJ are a bit daft. A mate had a 1.7 something or other in his and it ruined it, all top heavy and it handled like an elephant on E. Shove a Vit lump in it!

My mates got a .1.6 in his 410 and and its good enough

I even nearly kept up to him on a straight but he pulled away better at the traffic lights

I reckon the best engine for a sj is 1.6 16v

The 16valve is a bit harder to fit in the sj compared to the 1.6 8 v

As u have to use the vitara loom and fit it in the sj

I'm sure someone will exsplain it better

It'll say on G16A is 8v G16B is 16v i think

Also the 8v is either carbed or SPi, 16v is multi point.

Bang a photo up and we can have it confirmed.

16V has alloy rocker cover and says '16V' on the timing cover, 8V has steel rocker cover. 16V engine came with both G16A and G16B blocks.
