As for horse I've been riding a couple of times, nothing special, horse, saddle, reigns. Clydesdale horses (they are huge!) on the Isle of Skye, some kinda horse in Wales and cowboy horses (honestly that's a proper thing) at a ranch in the grand canyon.

There's a very good chance that you were riding a quarter horse there, mate.

I'm not an expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but the quarter horse was bred by cowboys. Cowboys rode lots of breeds (apalosas, mustang etc) but they bred the quarter horse specifically for the "cowboy life" - do a search on YouTube for "quarter horse cutting" (nothing to do with harming horses) to see what I mean.

I used to like horses.... then I had an ex with one that hated me for some reason!

TBH horses are cool, its a lot of the riders (over here anyway) that need their attitudes adjusting!!!

I've seen a lot of videos on quarter horses, but I've never met one. I've always had the feeling that they're playful - and definitely intelligent. When you see them herding (especially when they're cutting), there's something that reminds me of a sheepdog.

Yes, they surely are playful and, characterially speaking, more similar to dogs than other breeds. That's because they've been selected for working and not for 'leisure' or fun.
QH had to guide herd for days and so they must be reliable partners and those little things are in the DNA of almost all qh-derived breeds. Another remarkable things is the variety of colours of qh coats.

Before meeting QH I tried andalusians, thoroughbred, irish, hannoverians, arabs, haflingers, fresians.... each of them has lovable peculiarities.

I have another qh, a dunalno 3yrs filly I'm training just now...
So the bay one will become a 4x4 offroad monster, the filly will be an arena dirt miss ^__^

This is Chunky! not sure what breed he is but my uncle riding him is about 17-19 stone id say, so Chunky is pretty big!

but let me say...that Chunky is a great cool horse! Maybe a Shire, maybe a Clydesdale, maybe a mix, who knows but also...who cares? Is he beautiful, enjoyable, funny and healthy? So....who cares the breed?
