I'm not an expert, by any stretch of the imagination, but the quarter horse was bred by cowboys. Cowboys rode lots of breeds (apalosas, mustang etc) but they bred the quarter horse specifically for the "cowboy life" - do a search on YouTube for "quarter horse cutting" (nothing to do with harming horses) to see what I mean.
They are *amazing* animals.
