Re: Spotted!
Hydrogen as a fuel is a wonderful idea but I probably won't be around to see it. The oil companies are greedy bastards and that is why new drilling sites go up every day. When the oil runs out then they'll have no choice but still charge every driver a high premium to use the new 'wonder' fuel.
As for Toyota Prius...any idiot who buys one of those and thinks he is saving the planet is beneath the word wanker. I could run my Suzuki for the rest of my life and still not make as much of a carbon footprint as it costs to build one of those things. And how do you dispose of the batteries when they die? You can't. And buying replacements is so costly you can actually take out battery insurance on new electric cars. And where do these electric car drivers think the fuel is coming from? Wind farms?? It comes from the National Grid.
I think there is one Hydrogen car in the world, a Honda, and one Hydrogen 'gas' station. In Los Angeles. Fucking marvellous.
Stick with petrol, bollocks to diesel.
Rant over.

Re: Spotted!
You want my idea of a truly environmentally friendly vehicle?
Any petrol car. Running on home brewed and distilled alcohol, which is made from fruit that would otherwise be thrown away.
Most people would call that "bio-ethanol". I just call it ethanol, as all ethanol is "bio"...
Anyhow, I would love to do something like that, only problem is that it is illegal to distill alcohol without a licence. It's easy, but illegal.

Re: Spotted!
As much as people have complained about the idea in the past I'm still going to carry out my plan of making an electric SJ...
with a generator charging the batteries
batteries aren't good at the minute but they are going to have to improve at some point!
and I just think it would be an interesting project!

There is a hydrogen filling station in Swindon - at the Honda factory. During the Olympics the hydrogen fuelled taxis were transported there on a flatbed every day to be filled updonkeychomp wrote: I think there is one Hydrogen car in the world, a Honda, and one Hydrogen 'gas' station. Re: Spotted!
Of all the videos Twiss has made me watch of the ones that have been done, I'll stick to petrol
It's a lot of money for something that's not very good
The bit that sounds like it would suck over here is that the motor gets hot going up big bridges and I with all the hills in the UK I think that motor would end up hot
Max speed of 47mph but for only short periods, I'll give that a miss
Yeah maybe when battery and motor technology is better and cheaper I can see the point but at the moment I'll give it a miss.

Well that makes perfect economical sense then....

Re: Spotted!
It's the batteries that are the limiting factor really. That guy just put a naff motor in. If you could rig up, lets say, a 100KW motor (135hp) to a few hydrogen fuel cells, then it'd make sense (and not before, I'd like to add)ScottieJ wrote:Yeah maybe when battery and motor technology is better and cheaper I can see the point but at the moment I'll give it a miss.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: Spotted!
It's still a $750 motor! So if that's a "naff" motor then how much is a good one?
As I said, affordable technology isn't here to make the conversion worth it and it's very expensive for crap results
