SJs have 3 leafs on the front and 3+1 at the rear as standard on all models as far as I know, which isn't very far to be honest.
The plus one is a short straight rebound leaf.

Spanish sj410 Santana's run a single leaf front and I think they are 2+1 on the rear, ill have a look as we have some in the workshop with snapped eyes that we took off my dads sj.

(sorry if I missed this somewhere but...) anyone know the 'correct' clearance to ground on new factory springs - I mean what was it straight off production line in 1990 say. I'm interested to know if/how much mine has settled. A dimension from u'side of diff to flat ground would be handy, or similar. Obviously tyres fitted would affect dimension but was standard ex factory 205/70?

Standard ground clearance is listed as 205mm...
I assume that's from the bottom of the diff with the standard 195r15 tyres

Sagging springs or suspension lift won't make any difference to the diff height, only thing that changes that is the tyre size.
You would need the measurement between the chassis and floor or between tha axles case and bumpstops to determine if the springs have sagged. Tbh as long as the front springs have not reversed their arch I wouldn't worry too much.
I will take some measurements off both my Lwb and samurai for you as they have good standard springs fitted.

where did you get these from? checked bits4vits and couldn't see

Is it normal for lift springs to be higher on one side than the other?

if theyre second hand yes, because the driver sits at one side you tend to find one spring sags quicker than the other, where the extra weight is. When i put the lift springs on mine i sat them on the floor and put the the taller of the two on the drivers side.Josh-holden wrote:Is it normal for lift springs to be higher on one side than the other?
Some people like to swap their springs over from side to side every so often to stop this from happening.
