Re: just bought my first sj samuri :)
Now that the registration is sorted I was wondering what you guys think the best mods would be to do to save time in the future?? I know I probably should just get it ready for mot but tbh I can't see the point in spending all the time doing something and then in a few months have to do it all over again if I decide to upgrade that part??

Get it MOT'd first. You seem to have quite a bit of kit on it already (always good!) so when she passes then have a think what to do next.
If it ticks over...leave it

Ok I don't think it's going to need much for the mot really, new brake lines as they look quite badly corroded and bogded so they stay on, the suspension needs looking at, new king pin, and then reconnect the fuel tank but I'm thinking about putting that in the back on the truck? Is that a good idea or not really and then finally just clean everything up.

You will gain more clearance under the back, and it will have a bit less resistance when going through deep mud/water, but you are supposed to have a firewall between the petrol tank and the passenger compartment.... and you lose half the room in the back of the zook.
Id say for a trialler then go for it, but not for a road go-er.

Right ok! So I'd be better putting the original fuel tank on and possibly weld a protection place over or is that not necessary?? Also I've been working on it today and noticed the suspension is a bit bent, what will need to be done about that for it to be safe??

If the tank is underneath it should be relatively well protected by the standard guard...
I've been running mine with no guard for over a year, been to a few pay and plays and only managed to put a small dent in it!!!
Swapping for the correct tank today so will be putting it back on haha

Oh right ok, yeah it does look like it sits quite high up and because mines got quite a big lift on it I thought it may have been ok.

Does anyone know by looking at those photos what will need replacing?. I've got new springs and bushes but no shackles which I will probably need and I also have the u bolts that let it go over the axle.

Well the bushes dont look too healthy, that would be fun, changing all the bushes lol
The shackles might be broken as well, but hard to tell from pictures..
I hate to say it as you've already got spring over but it might be worth making some different shackles, something like mine with a bolt in the middle to keep them straight-ish
But you would want to make the gaps between the centre bolt and the spring eye as small as possible (you really dont want any more lift), like the top half of my shackle in the picture. Might be worth a try but could make your handling terrible with the spring over
Might be worth checking out the spring mounting plates on the axle... maybe send a pic of them?
Some conversions can be done really badly so worth checking
