X 90 RWD ?
X 90 RWD ?
Hi Am looking to buy a 2WD X -90 but need the answer to a question...
Are they Rear Wheel Drive ?
Want to use one in a rally ( No 4x4 allowed ! ) and I don't want front wheel drive. Have looked online and it mentions both !
Definitive answer would be most appreciated -

Most were 2 wheel drive. If you can find the 4x4 version why not go for that?
If it ticks over...leave it
Re: X 90 RWD ?
The rally I want to enter stipulates no four wheel drive so I need the 2 WD model. The X90 looks ideal.
Re: X 90 RWD ?
Thanks Scottie, that's really helpful. I will go and look at one I know is for sale ( bit far away for me to go just to see if it was RWD ) what would need to be done to a 4x4 to make it RWD only ? Is the 4x4 higher spec ?

remove the front prop, or with sj's etc when the transfer box is in 2wd it is RWD.

Re: X 90 RWD ?
As above. It should be as simple as undoing eight nuts/bolts and taking out the front prop if it is a 4x4 version.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

If you can use a spanner, it's 5 minutes work to take out the front propshaft and make it a 2wd.
If you work slowly, it is...

Re: X 90 RWD ?
You can't just pull the front propshaft or you'll loose all the tbox oil on v90/vit transferboxes. you'll need to cap the front output off somehow.

Oops - shouldn't have assumed that it was as easy with a Vit as an SJ.
Personally I'd get a second hand prop, take the UJ out, and use that as a cap.
